Size Guide
Last updated:
Every Proudjersey jersey comes in eight adult sizes: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL. This guide helps you pick the right one. Jerseys are not all cut the same way: a hockey jersey is built to go over pads, a basketball jersey is a sleeveless tank, a soccer jersey sits closer to the body. So instead of giving you one generic chart, this page shows you how to measure a jersey you already own, how each sport cut tends to fit and how to decide when you are between two sizes. If you still end up with the wrong size, you can exchange it within 60 days of delivery.
Sizing at a glance
- Sizes offered: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL (adult sizes).
- Best method: measure a jersey or shirt that already fits you well and compare it with the product page.
- Between sizes? Size up for layering or a relaxed look; stay true to size for a neater fit.
- Measurements per product: where a product page lists garment measurements, those figures take priority over the general advice here.
- Wrong size? Exchange within 60 days of delivery; we ship the new size to you free.
Why we do not publish one chart for every jersey
Many shops publish a single table of chest and length figures and apply it to everything. For jerseys that approach causes more wrong orders than it prevents, because the cut changes from one sport to another and from one design to the next. A 2XL hockey jersey and a 2XL soccer jersey can feel like two different sizes on the same person. Rather than publish numbers that might not match the jersey you are looking at, we give you a reliable method, and we add exact garment measurements to a product page whenever we have verified them for that product. If a product page does not show measurements and you would like them before ordering, email us and we will check that specific jersey for you.
How to measure a jersey you already own
The most accurate way to choose is to compare with something that already fits the way you like. You need a measuring tape and a flat surface such as a table or a clean floor.
- Lay the jersey flat, front facing up, buttons fastened if it has any, and smooth out wrinkles without stretching the fabric.
- Chest width: measure straight across the front from one side seam to the other, about one inch below the armholes. This single measurement tells you most of what you need to know about fit.
- Body length: measure from the highest point of the shoulder, where the collar meets the shoulder seam, straight down to the bottom of the hem.
- Sleeve length (for sleeved jerseys): measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve.
- Write the numbers down and note how you like that garment to fit: snug, regular or roomy.
When a Proudjersey product page lists garment measurements, compare them with your numbers. Pick the size whose chest width is closest to your favourite jersey; if two sizes are close, use body length as the tie-breaker. If you prefer to measure your body instead, measure around the fullest part of your chest under your arms, keeping the tape level, and tell us that number together with the jersey you are considering. We will tell you which size is closest.
How each sport cut tends to fit
| Jersey style | Typical shape | Most people choose | Size up if you want to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baseball (button-front) | Straight body, relaxed through the chest, short sleeves | Their usual shirt size | Wear it open over a hoodie or prefer an oversized look |
| Softball (two-button or full-button) | Similar to baseball, slightly sportier | Their usual shirt size | Layer over long sleeves for cool evening games |
| Basketball (sleeveless) | Tank cut, deep armholes, longer body | Their usual size for play | Wear a T-shirt underneath or want a streetwear drape |
| Football | Boxy, wide shoulders, short sleeves | Their usual T-shirt size | Wear it over shoulder pads or a thick sweatshirt |
| Hockey | Long and roomy, full sleeves | Their usual size; it is already generous | Wear full gear underneath |
| Soccer | Trimmer athletic cut, short sleeves | Their usual size for play | Prefer a looser casual fit for watching games |
| Bowling | Camp collar, straight hem worn untucked | Their usual shirt size | Want a vintage oversized look |
These are general tendencies drawn from how each style is designed, not guaranteed measurements. Each product page states the style of the jersey, and any verified measurements for that product appear there.
Our size labels in order
The size options on every product page use the same eight labels, always in the same order, so you can move up or down one step with confidence. On the product page you pick a size from the buttons next to “Size”; the label you choose is the label printed on your order confirmation and on the jersey.
| Label | Also written as | One size down | One size up |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Small | Not offered | M |
| M | Medium | S | L |
| L | Large | M | XL |
| XL | Extra large | L | 2XL |
| 2XL | XXL | XL | 3XL |
| 3XL | XXXL | 2XL | 4XL |
| 4XL | XXXXL | 3XL | 5XL |
| 5XL | XXXXXL | 4XL | Not offered |
If a size button looks greyed out on a product page, that size of that design is currently unavailable; the other sizes can still be ordered.
Fit words we use on product pages
- Relaxed fit: extra room through the chest and body; most people stay with their usual size.
- Athletic fit: follows the body more closely for movement; size up if you like room.
- Oversized or roomy: intentionally generous, such as hockey and football styles; size down only if you want a neat look.
- Layering room: the cut leaves space for a hoodie or base layer underneath.
Choosing between two sizes
Being between sizes is common, and there is no wrong answer, only a different look. Ask yourself three questions:
- What will you wear underneath? A hoodie, a long-sleeve base layer or pads all call for one size up. A plain T-shirt or nothing at all usually means your normal size.
- Where will you wear it? For playing, a closer fit stays out of the way. For watching games, travel or everyday wear, many people like the extra room of the bigger size.
- How do your current favourites fit? If your best-loved jersey is a size larger than your T-shirts, follow that habit.
A practical example: Taylor normally wears an L T-shirt and wants a hockey jersey for an unheated rink, worn over a thick hoodie. Hockey jerseys are already roomy, but a hoodie adds bulk around the arms, so Taylor chooses XL. Another example: Chris wears an XL T-shirt and wants a soccer jersey for a Sunday league; Chris plays in it with nothing underneath and picks XL for a clean fit.
Sizing for a team or a group
Team orders are where a few minutes of planning save the most time. Before ordering for a roster:
- Share this page with every player and ask them to measure a jersey or shirt they like.
- Collect each person’s chest measurement and preferred fit, not just “M” or “L”, because size labels mean different things to different people.
- Decide as a team whether jerseys will be worn over anything (cold-weather leagues, pads) and size up consistently if so.
- Send us the list before ordering if you would like a second opinion. Email [email protected] or use Contact Us; we reply within 1 business day.
If one or two players still end up with the wrong size, each jersey can be exchanged individually under our Returns & Exchanges Policy, without returning the whole order.
Sizing for gifts
Buying for someone else is tricky, so here are a few tricks. Borrow a shirt from their wardrobe and measure it while they are out. Check the size label on a jersey or sweatshirt they wear often. When in doubt, go one size up: a slightly roomy jersey is wearable, a tight one is not. The recipient can exchange the jersey within 60 days of delivery without you being involved.
Caring for your jersey so the fit lasts
How a jersey is washed affects how it fits months later. To keep the size you chose:
- Turn the jersey inside out before washing to protect the print and any numbers or lettering.
- Use a cold, gentle cycle with similar colours.
- Hang it to dry or lay it flat; high dryer heat can shrink fabric and damage prints.
- Do not iron directly over printed areas; if needed, iron inside out on a low setting.
- Avoid bleach and fabric softener on printed areas.
Always follow the care label inside your jersey if it gives different instructions.
If the size is not right
You have 60 days from delivery to exchange a jersey for another size. Email us with your order number and the size you would like, and we reserve it for you. For a size swap, you pay the postage to send the original back and we ship the new size to you free once it arrives. Exchanges for a different design are also possible. If we sent you the wrong size, we fix it at no cost to you. Full details are in our Returns & Exchanges Policy, and refund timing is explained in our Refund Policy.
Sizing questions
Do you offer youth or toddler sizes?
Our range is currently adult sizes S to 5XL. If you are looking for a smaller wearer, compare the S garment measurements on the product page, where available, with a shirt that fits them.
Are men’s and women’s sizes different?
Our jerseys use one unisex size run. Many women find that their usual T-shirt size, or one size down for a closer fit, works well; measuring a favourite shirt is the most reliable way to decide.
Will the jersey shrink?
Following the care steps above minimises shrinkage. Washing on hot or tumble drying on high heat can cause any garment to shrink slightly.
Do all designs in the same sport fit the same?
Usually they are very close, because designs within one sport share the same basic cut. Small differences can come from collar styles or sleeve trims, which is why product-specific measurements, when listed, always take priority.
I am 5XL or larger. Will the jersey work for me?
Our largest size is 5XL. Hockey and football styles are the most generous cuts in our range, so they are the best place to start. Send us your chest measurement and we will tell you honestly whether a 5XL is likely to fit before you order.
Can you check a size for me?
Yes. Send us the product name, your measurements or those of a jersey you like, and how you want it to fit. We reply within 1 business day with our recommendation.
